Educational institutions across the Emirates transition back to physical classrooms following a period of precautionary remote learning.

DUBAI: The UAE Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research have officially announced the resumption of in-person learning for all students, teachers, and administrative staff. Starting Monday, May 11, 2026, all public and private schools, nurseries, and higher education institutions across the Emirates will return to campus-based education.

Return to Campus Life

The decision marks the end of a temporary shift to distance learning that was implemented from May 5 to May 8. Authorities confirmed that the return applies to the entire educational ecosystem, including academic and administrative personnel. The move follows comprehensive monitoring of recent developments and close coordination with relevant national entities to ensure that academic assessments and the educational process continue without interruption.

Safety and Contingency Measures

While students return to their desks, the ministries emphasized that safety remains the top priority. Educational institutions are mandated to continue the implementation of approved security and safety protocols.

“Authorities stated that schools and universities remain fully prepared to activate alternative learning models if required, depending on ongoing assessments and situational developments.”

The government has assured the public that coordination with institutions nationwide will persist to facilitate a seamless transition. Any further updates regarding the educational calendar or safety mandates will be communicated exclusively through official government channels.

Context: The Shift to Remote Learning

The brief period of remote learning was introduced as a precautionary measure last week. The shift occurred between May 5 and May 8 amid heightened regional tensions and emergency alerts. During this time, the UAE air defense systems were on high alert following the interception of missiles and drones, prompting authorities to prioritize the safety of students and staff by limiting physical commutes.

The resumption of physical classes on Monday signals a return to normalcy for thousands of families and students across the UAE, bolstered by the government’s confidence in the current security environment.
