The UAE national athletics team continued its impressive run at the 22nd Asian U20 Athletics Championships in Hong Kong, securing two additional gold medals to raise its overall tally to five medals, including four golds and one bronze.
The first gold medal of the day was won by Maryam Karim in the women’s 400-metre final. She crossed the finish line in a personal best time of 56.93 seconds, finishing ahead of competitors from Chinese Taipei and Kazakhstan to claim the continental title.
The UAE’s second gold medal came through Abdulqadoos Ahmed Ali, who delivered a dominant performance in the men’s 200-metre final. He clocked a personal best of 20.85 seconds despite competing against a headwind of 1.6 metres per second.
The latest victories further strengthened the UAE’s position among the top-performing nations at the championships and highlighted the growing success of the country’s youth athletics programme.
Commenting on the achievement, Major General Dr. Mohammed Abdullah Al Mur said the results reflect the outstanding performances delivered by the national team throughout the tournament.
He praised Maryam Karim for her significant development and commanding display in the women’s 400 metres, while commending Abdulqadoos Ahmed Ali for his impressive victory in the 200 metres.
Al Mur noted that Abdulqadoos’ performance further reinforces his reputation as one of Asia’s most promising young sprinters and reflects the effectiveness of the federation’s long-term athlete development strategy.
The UAE team has now won four gold medals and one bronze medal at the championships, continuing a successful campaign in Hong Kong.
