National Centre of Meteorology warns of reduced visibility and high humidity while convective clouds bring afternoon showers to eastern and southern regions
DUBAI:Scorching summer heat will push temperatures up to 50°C across parts of the United Arab Emirates on Wednesday, while localized rain showers and blowing dust threaten to disrupt daily routines and driving conditions in eastern and southern areas.
The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) issued a multi-day bulletin forecasting fair to partly cloudy skies nationwide, punctuated by afternoon convective cloud development that brings a high likelihood of scattered rainfall over eastern and southern territories.
Mercury levels in interior regions are expected to peak between 45°C and 50°C. Coastal zones and islands will experience maximum temperatures ranging from 39°C to 45°C, while elevated mountainous regions offer relative reprieve with highs between 33°C and 39°C. On Tuesday, official weather stations recorded temperatures reaching 50.3°C in Madinat Zayed and Mezaira’a within the Al Dhafra region.
Wind activity remains light to moderate overall but is expected to freshen periodically. Gusts could reach up to 40 km/h across inland and mountainous terrains and 35 km/h along the coastline. Weather officials cautioned that these shifting winds will stir up loose sand and dust, causing temporary reductions in horizontal visibility on open roads and desert highways.
Humidity levels are set to surge overnight into Thursday morning across coastal areas, creating conditions conducive to localized fog and mist formation. Maritime conditions in the Arabian Gulf and the Oman Sea are anticipated to remain slight to moderate initially.
Forecasters expect a minor downward trend in maximum temperatures starting Thursday, though active winds reaching 40 km/h will continue to blow dust across western areas. Offshore waters in the western Arabian Gulf may turn rough at times.
The potential for afternoon convective cloud formation and localized rainfall over eastern regions will persist through Friday and Saturday, accompanied by wind speeds averaging 35 km/h. Stable, fair to partly cloudy conditions are forecast to return across most of the country by Sunday.
