Dubai: The Special Olympics UAE, in partnership with the UAE Football Association, marked World Football Day 2026 with a special celebration in Dubai under the slogan “Football Unites Us”.
The event was held at the UAE Football Association headquarters and witnessed broad participation from People of Determination athletes, coaches, and unified partners, highlighting the role of sports in promoting inclusion and social integration.
The celebration forms part of the ongoing partnership between Special Olympics UAE and the UAEFA to strengthen unified sports programmes, empower People of Determination, and promote community inclusion through football and other sporting activities.
Organisers said the initiative aligns with the UAE’s broader vision of building a more inclusive and sustainable society through equal opportunities in sports and community participation.
The event also highlighted the UAE Football Association’s continued support for sports and social initiatives, as well as its efforts to provide an integrated sporting environment that helps Special Olympics athletes develop their skills and expand participation opportunities.
Observed annually on May 25, World Football Day is recognised by the United Nations as a global occasion celebrating football’s role in promoting unity, youth empowerment, peace, and international solidarity.
The annual observance follows the adoption of a resolution during the 78th session of the UN General Assembly recognising football’s global influence and its contribution to cooperation, diplomacy, commerce, and social development.
Officials said the Dubai celebration reflected the UAE’s commitment to using sports as a platform for inclusion, cultural understanding, and community engagement.
