Dubai/Doha: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has strengthened strategic ties with Gulf nations, securing major defence cooperation agreements during his recent diplomatic tour of the Middle East.

Zelenskyy signed long-term defence deals with countries including Qatar and Saudi Arabia, while also advancing cooperation with the United Arab Emirates. These agreements focus on countering missile and drone threats, a growing concern in the region amid escalating tensions linked to the Iran conflict.

The partnerships are expected to run for up to 10 years and include sharing military expertise, joint production of defence systems, and collaboration in advanced technologies. Ukraine, which has gained significant battlefield experience in countering drone attacks during its war with Russia, is offering its expertise to Gulf countries facing similar threats.

As part of the agreements, Ukraine has deployed over 200 specialists to assist Gulf nations in strengthening their air defence systems and protecting critical infrastructure.

Zelenskyy’s visit also included discussions on broader security cooperation, energy partnerships, and investment opportunities. In return for providing defence expertise, Ukraine is seeking financial support, access to advanced air defence systems, and long-term economic collaboration with energy-rich Gulf states.

The diplomatic push comes at a time when Western military aid to Ukraine faces uncertainty and global attention is shifting toward the Middle East conflict. Analysts say Ukraine is positioning itself as a key security partner by leveraging its combat-tested technologies and experience.

Experts believe these agreements mark a significant shift, with Ukraine emerging not only as a recipient of international aid but also as a provider of defence solutions in global security dynamics.
