Versatile actor and public figure Santhosh K. Nair, who passed away following a tragic road accident, was cremated with state honors.
THRISSUR – The Malayalam film industry and the cultural landscape of Kerala mourned the loss of veteran actor Santhosh K. Nair, whose mortal remains were laid to rest at the Paramekkavu Shanti Ghat in Thrissur on Wednesday. The funeral followed an emotional public viewing at his residence in Guruvayur, where hundreds gathered to pay their final respects to a man known as much for his social commitment as for his cinematic versatility.
The 62-year-old actor met with a fatal accident in the early hours of Tuesday at Enathu, Pathanamthitta. The car he was traveling in collided with a truck, leaving him with critical injuries. Although he was rushed for emergency medical care, he suffered a cardiac arrest while undergoing treatment, which proved fatal.
A Career Marked by Versatility
Santhosh K. Nair’s journey in Malayalam cinema began over four decades ago with his debut in the 1982 film Ithu Njangalude Katha. Throughout his career, he refused to be pigeonholed into a single genre. He was one of the few actors who transitioned seamlessly between intense villainous roles, comedic characters, and poignant supporting performances.
His final appearance on the silver screen was in the recently released film Mohiniyattam, which is currently playing in theaters—a bittersweet reminder of his enduring presence in the industry.
Beyond the Silver Screen
While the public knew him through his films, Santhosh was also a formidable figure in the financial and social sectors. At the time of his passing, he was serving as the National President of the All India Nidhi Foundation. His ability to balance a demanding acting career with significant public responsibilities earned him respect across political and cultural circles.
Prominent figures from the film industry, alongside political leaders and cultural icons, visited his Guruvayur residence on Wednesday morning. The atmosphere remained somber as colleagues recalled his disciplined approach to work and his approachable nature.
