30 flower species, 40 varieties and 20 colour gradients are selected to suit Al Ain’s climate and environment.
Al Ain is planting more than five million seasonal flower seedlings every year as part of a large-scale urban beautification programme aimed at enhancing green spaces, improving quality of life, and reinforcing the city’s reputation as one of the UAE’s greenest destinations.
Led by the Al Ain City Municipality, the initiative covers major roads, public squares, parks, and recreational areas throughout the city. Decorative planters and landscaped floral displays are strategically integrated into urban infrastructure to create vibrant and visually appealing public spaces.
According to Engineer Salama Shatit Al Dhaheri, the annual planting programme includes 30 species of seasonal flowers encompassing 40 varieties and 20 colour gradients.
The flower selections are carefully chosen to suit Al Ain’s environmental conditions and climate, ensuring continuous blooms and attractive landscapes throughout the year.
Al Dhaheri said specialised field teams implement the programme through an integrated operational plan that includes soil preparation, quality enhancement measures, site-specific plant selection, and the adoption of best agricultural practices.
The municipality also uses modern automated irrigation systems supported by regular maintenance programmes to ensure the sustainability and long-term health of the floral displays.
Officials said the project forms part of a broader strategy focused on innovation, environmental sustainability, and urban beautification. The initiative aims to increase green coverage, enhance environmental balance, and provide attractive public spaces that meet the expectations of residents and visitors.
Through such projects, Al Ain continues to strengthen its position as a sustainable and liveable city while promoting biodiversity and improving the overall urban environment.
