Bangladesh Collects Expats’ Data After 626 UAE Visas Facing Auto-Cancellation

ABU DHABI / DHAKA — August 3, 2026:The Embassy of Bangladesh in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate General in Dubai have launched a comprehensive data collection drive for expatriates affected by automatic visa cancellations in the United Arab Emirates, official notices and government statements confirmed.

Clarifying widespread social media speculation claiming thousands of expatriates had been stranded, Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that exactly 626 Bangladeshi nationals have experienced visa cancellations, rather than the 5,000 cases cited in unverified online reports.

Diplomatic Intervention and Inter-Ministerial Review

Speaking after a high-level inter-ministerial meeting in Dhaka with Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment State Minister Md Nurul Haque, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam stated that the situation is not exclusive to Bangladesh. Expatriates from several other nations—including Pakistan, Egypt, the Philippines, and Nepal—have experienced similar automatic cancellations under updated automated system checks by UAE immigration authorities.

“According to information verified by our embassy and UAE authorities, the actual number of affected Bangladeshi nationals stands at 626,” Shama Obaed said. She added that detailed documentation for 417 individuals has already been submitted to UAE immigration officials to facilitate visa renewals, with the remaining cases being processed systematically.

Embassy Directives and Submission Process

In a special advisory issued on July 31, the embassy requested affected citizens—particularly those currently outside the UAE on vacation or leave—to submit their details via email to mission.abudhabi@mofa.gov.bd. Applicants must use the standardized email subject line Visa Cancellation Issue – [Your Name].

To build a secure and verified database, the embassy requires applicants to submit:

  • Full name, contact phone number, and WhatsApp number
  • Passport number and copy
  • Emirates ID number and copy
  • Profession, current location, and sponsor/company contact details
  • Visa expiry date and official visa cancellation notice copy
  • Date of last visit to Bangladesh, where applicable

The mission advised that expatriates who have already submitted their documentation through official channels do not need to re-send their details.

Legal Compliance and Forgery Warning

Foreign Ministry officials noted that automated system flags in the UAE often occur due to administrative discrepancies, job terminations, or instances of forged documentation detected during security screening.

“When authorities detect fraudulent or forged documents, visas are automatically revoked or rejected for renewal,” Shama Obaed warned. She urged overseas workers to strictly observe UAE residency laws, refrain from posting sensitive political content on social media, and rely solely on verified government communications rather than online rumors.
