Kolkata, March 3, 2026: Indian cricketer Sanju Samson, who played a match-winning knock against the West Indies to power India into the T20 World Cup semi-finals, has become the center of controversy after a social media post with alleged racist undertones triggered widespread criticism.
Samson scored an unbeaten 97 off just 50 balls in the Super Eight clash, steering India to a five-wicket victory in what was effectively a knockout encounter. His composed innings ensured India’s qualification for the semi-finals, where they are set to face England.
While the performance drew praise from fans and former players, a social media user’s post congratulating Samson reportedly contained racial overtones linked to the victory over the West Indies. Though framed as appreciation, the content was widely criticized for being insensitive and racially inappropriate.
The Congress party strongly condemned the post, stating that there is “no place for racism in India.” In a statement shared on its official social media handle, the party demanded immediate action against the individual responsible. Congress also urged Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to intervene and ensure strict action.
The controversy has since gained traction online, with several users calling for accountability and stronger monitoring of discriminatory content on digital platforms.
Meanwhile, Samson’s stellar performance continues to dominate sporting discussions, with cricket fans celebrating his crucial role in keeping India’s World Cup campaign alive.
