A humanoid robot dressed in traditional Emirati attire has captured widespread attention online after appearing to join worshippers for Eid Al Adha prayers at a mosque in Dubai.
The robot, known as Bu Sunaidah, was featured in a video shared on its official Instagram account, where it was seen wearing a kandura and shemagh and participating in Eid-related activities alongside worshippers.
In the video, the humanoid robot appears to arrive at the mosque before entering the prayer area and mimicking prayer movements alongside Emirati and expatriate worshippers. The footage quickly gained traction on social media, becoming one of the most talked-about viral moments of the Eid holiday.
The post accompanying the video read: “May Allah accept your good deeds and Eid Mubarak. We are happy to offer this educational content for our beloved kids.”
The clip was later reshared by several social media pages, including TravelBuzzUAE, which described the scene as one of the most unique Eid moments of the year.
While many social media users praised the video as a creative blend of technology and local culture, others questioned the appropriateness of a humanoid robot appearing in a place of worship and participating in prayer-related activities.
The robot is based on the Unitree G1, a commercially available humanoid robot designed for research, education, and interactive demonstrations. In the UAE, the character has gained popularity online under the nickname “Bu Sunaidah,” often appearing in videos showcasing Emirati culture, traditions, and public events.
The incident has reignited discussions about the growing role of artificial intelligence and robotics in public spaces, particularly when technology intersects with cultural and religious settings.
