Dubai: Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has joined the International Bus Benchmarking Group (IBBG), becoming the first public bus operator in the Middle East to be part of the global alliance that brings together leading bus operators and transport authorities worldwide.

The move marks another milestone in RTA’s journey toward becoming a globally connected mobility authority and further strengthens Dubai’s position as a leader in smart and sustainable urban transportation.

Ahmed Bahrozyan, CEO of the Public Transport Agency at RTA, said that joining the IBBG represents an important regional achievement and highlights Dubai’s growing role as a global hub for smart mobility solutions.

“Joining the International Bus Benchmarking Group reflects RTA’s strategic commitment to aligning public transport operations with leading global standards,” Bahrozyan said. He noted that the partnership will help enhance safety, reliability, efficiency, and environmental sustainability across Dubai’s public bus network.

Through its membership in the IBBG, RTA will be able to benchmark its performance against leading bus operators worldwide, adopt international best practices, and benefit from global performance indicators, comparative analytics, specialised workshops, and knowledge-sharing platforms.

The benchmarking process is expected to support improvements in several key areas, including fleet utilisation, maintenance optimisation, on-time performance, energy efficiency, emissions reduction, passenger satisfaction, and cost management.

RTA said the initiative will also support Dubai’s broader strategy to expand its smart mobility ecosystem, driven by digital transformation, intelligent transport systems, and the adoption of clean energy technologies in the public bus fleet.

Officials believe that integrating international benchmarking results into RTA’s operational model will strengthen service reliability, passenger comfort, operational efficiency, and environmental sustainability, while reinforcing Dubai’s status as a global reference for public transport excellence.

Bahrozyan added that joining the global group also enhances the Middle East’s presence in the international public transport benchmarking community and opens new opportunities for collaboration and knowledge exchange with advanced transport systems worldwide.
