Dubai: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), in coordination with Dubai Police, has impounded more than 390 delivery bicycles during a series of joint inspection campaigns aimed at improving road safety and ensuring compliance with transport regulations across the emirate.
The inspections were carried out over the past three months in key areas frequently used by delivery riders, including Al Muraqqabat, Dubai Marina, Dubai Silicon Oasis, and Downtown Dubai. The campaign focused on monitoring commercial transport activities, particularly bicycle-based delivery services, to ensure riders and companies comply with licensing requirements and safety standards.

According to the RTA, the initiative is part of broader efforts to enhance public safety and maintain Dubai’s urban appearance, while also improving the quality of delivery services provided to residents.

Saeed Al Ramsi, Director of Licensing Activities Monitoring at the RTA’s Licensing Agency, said the use of bicycles in the delivery sector has grown rapidly and has become an important part of Dubai’s economy.
“With this rapid growth, stronger field monitoring and strict compliance with safety requirements are necessary to ensure the safety of riders and other road users,” Al Ramsi said.
Inspection teams checked whether delivery bicycles complied with safety requirements such as white front lights, red rear reflectors, handlebar bells, and properly functioning front and rear brakes. Authorities also ensured that riders were wearing approved protective gear, including helmets, reflective vests, and elbow and knee guards.
Riders were also required to follow operational regulations, such as using designated cycling lanes and roads with speed limits below 60 km/h, and stopping only in designated areas.
The RTA said such patrols will continue on a regular basis, alongside awareness campaigns targeting delivery service companies and riders to ensure they fully understand the applicable regulations and safety requirements.
Officials emphasised that the initiative supports Dubai’s long-term goal of maintaining high safety standards and efficient mobility systems, while preserving the emirate’s distinctive urban character.
