In a major push for traffic safety and rider welfare, the Roads and Transport Authority completes maintenance on purpose-built cooling stations across high-demand zones.

DUBAI — Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has confirmed that its network of air-conditioned rest areas for delivery motorcycle riders is fully operational and prepared for the upcoming summer season. The initiative is part of a broader strategy by the RTA to enhance traffic safety, minimize accident risks, and improve the overall quality of life for the emirate’s essential delivery workforce.

Preparatory and maintenance works have been finalized across approximately 40 dedicated facilities situated in high-demand delivery hubs across Dubai. These locations include Hessa Street, Al Khawaneej, Al Barsha, Al Satwa, Oud Metha, Al Karama, and Arjan. According to the authority, site selection was heavily driven by operational data and a comprehensive study conducted in collaboration with major delivery companies to map out the zones with the highest concentration of rider activity.

The project highlights the RTA’s commitment to establishing a supportive, purpose-built infrastructure for a sector that has experienced exponential growth in recent years, fueled by a rising public reliance on on-demand delivery services.

“Traffic safety remains RTA’s highest priority, in line with our ambition to make Dubai a world leader in this field,” said Ahmed Mahboob, CEO of the Licensing Agency at the RTA. “We have developed an integrated governance framework for the delivery sector that ensures effective oversight across Dubai and contributes to continuously raising service standards.”

Engineered for the Summer Heat

The facilities have been specifically engineered to withstand extreme summer temperatures. The exterior architecture of each rest area has been designed to minimize the impact of direct sunlight and provide robust thermal insulation, all while ensuring optimal external visibility.

Each station offers an air-conditioned interior capable of accommodating approximately 10 riders at any given time. To support riders during their breaks, the rest areas are equipped with essential amenities, including:

  • Water dispensers
  • Mobile phone charging stations
  • Dedicated outdoor parking spaces for delivery motorcycles

By providing these climate-controlled environments, the RTA aims to encourage compliance with traffic regulations by ensuring riders have safe, designated locations to rest between orders, rather than waiting on roadsides or in unauthorized areas.
