GDRFA highlights AI-driven border management, smart travel verification, and risk prevention systems at the regional Bali Process conference.
DUBAI :The General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs (GDRFA) in Dubai has presented the emirate’s smart border management system at an international conference in Indonesia, showcasing how artificial intelligence and advanced digital inspection systems are speeding up passenger flow while strengthening security.
Delegates from GDRFA Dubai participated in the Immigration Officials Conference 2026, held from July 20 to 22 in Indonesia under the auspices of the Bali Process Regional Support Office. The forum convened border security officials and immigration experts across the Asia-Pacific region to exchange operational strategies and address cross-border crimes.
Major Hashim Al Hashimi and Captain Abdullah Al Kamal represented the GDRFA at the summit. The UAE delegation held bilateral discussions with international counterparts focusing on technical integration, real-time data sharing, capacity building, and digital verification frameworks.
Dubai’s smart border model merges AI algorithms with automated clearance technology, allowing customs and immigration infrastructure to evaluate potential security risks in real time without creating bottlenecks at travel hubs. The system aims to eliminate redundant manual documentation checks, enabling seamless passenger movement across Dubai’s land, air, and sea ports.
Major General Talal Ahmad Al Shanqiti, Assistant Director General for Airports at GDRFA Dubai, stated that participating in the Bali Process reflects the UAE’s commitment to setting global benchmarks in immigration control. Integrating artificial intelligence with security operations allows the authority to maintain robust border oversight while delivering a smooth experience for international travelers.
Established in 2002, the Bali Process comprises 45 member states and multiple international organizations, serving as a primary regional framework to combat human trafficking, people smuggling, and related transnational crime.
