The massive transformation includes the region’s first floating walkway and dedicated night swimming zones, significantly expanding Dubai’s coastal leisure capacity.
DUBAI – In a significant boost to the emirate’s coastal tourism and urban infrastructure, Dubai Municipality has officially reopened Khor Al Mamzar Beach following a comprehensive Dh500 million redevelopment. The project, which spans a staggering 2.75 million square feet, marks the completion of the first phase of the Al Mamzar Beaches masterplan.
The revamp aims to cater to the growing demand for high-quality public spaces, with annual visitor numbers projected to hit seven million upon the completion of the second phase. This initiative aligns with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, directed by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to solidify Dubai’s position as the world’s most livable city.
Standout Features of the New Al Mamzar Beach
The redevelopment introduces several first-of-their-kind amenities designed to enhance the experience for both residents and tourists:
- Regional-First Floating Walkway: Perhaps the most iconic addition is the region’s first floating walkway. This structure provides a unique vantage point over the Arabian Gulf and serves as a primary launch hub for water sports such as kayaking and paddleboarding.
- Night Swimming Facilities: Al Mamzar now joins the ranks of Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim as a premier night swimming destination. A 300-metre illuminated tower ensures the waters are safely lit, allowing for round-the-clock swimming—a major advantage for residents looking to escape the daytime summer heat.
- Extensive Fitness and Cycling Tracks: For fitness enthusiasts, the beach now features over 5.5 kilometres of dedicated tracks for running, walking, and cycling. A notable addition for cyclists is the installation of free self-repair stations along the route.
- Expanded Shoreline and Public Facilities: The sandy beachfront has more than doubled in size, increasing by 110% to cover 182,000 square metres. To match this growth, public facilities have seen a 400% increase, with 20 modern service blocks and eight new recreational zones now operational.
- Diverse Sports and Family Zones: The leisure offering has been diversified with the addition of padel courts, volleyball and football pitches, and outdoor gyms. Furthermore, designated BBQ zones have been integrated, maintaining the beach’s reputation as a top-tier family gathering spot.
Part of a Larger Dh3 Billion Vision
The Al Mamzar project is a critical component of a broader Dh3 billion strategy to upgrade Dubai’s entire coastline, including Jumeirah and Jebel Ali. This long-term plan, scheduled for completion through 2030, seeks to increase the city’s total beach capacity by 170%.
By integrating modern technology with expanded natural spaces, Dubai continues to set a global benchmark for urban coastal development, ensuring that its growing population and influx of tourists have access to world-class recreational facilities.
