Thirteen other Indian nationals rescued as Ministry of External Affairs coordinates with Omani officials for urgent repatriation.
NEW DELHI, India — An Indian national has died and 13 others were rescued after an attack on the commercial vessel MSV Al Jusufi off the coast of Limah, Oman, the Ministry of External Affairs announced Tuesday.
The vessel, carrying an all-Indian crew of 14, came under fire on the evening of November 2. One crew member succumbed to fatal injuries sustained during the strike, prompting the ministry to extend condolences to the victim’s family.
India’s Embassy in Muscat is in direct contact with Omani authorities to manage the early repatriation of the surviving crew members and arrange the transit of the deceased sailor’s remains back to India.
Condemning the incident, the ministry labeled the persistent strikes against commercial vessels in regional waters as “deeply concerning.” New Delhi reiterated its call for an immediate de-escalation of hostilities and urged the swift conclusion of diplomatic talks to restore long-term peace and stability.
Targeting commercial shipping and civilian maritime infrastructure must cease immediately, the ministry said, stressing that unimpeded freedom of navigation through international waterways must be re-established in full compliance with international law.
