President Masoud Pezeshkian says Tehran holds authority from Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei to pursue diplomacy, despite reports of US strikes on Qeshm Island.
TEHRAN, Iran — Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian declared on Tuesday that Tehran remains committed to resolving conflicts through dialogue while firmly rejecting any prospect of surrender to adversaries, hours after reports emerged of a US military strike on the country’s strategic Qeshm Island.

Addressing a gathering of provincial governors and mayors in Tehran, Pezeshkian emphasized that war serves no nation’s interest. He stated that Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has granted the Iranian government specific executive authorities to pursue diplomatic solutions to ongoing tensions, Xinhua news agency reported via the president’s office.
Pezeshkian accused Washington of deliberately seeking to destabilize Iran’s cross-border trade networks with neighboring nations. He asserted that the administration, supported by domestic public solidarity, would actively thwart foreign economic disruption.
The diplomatic overtures coincided with reports from the Wall Street Journal detailing a US attack launched Monday against Qeshm Island, situated strategically in the Strait of Hormuz. US officials characterized the operation as part of a covert sequence of limited strikes conducted against Iranian territory in recent weeks, even as US President Donald Trump publicly pointed toward negotiation progress intended to conclude the eight-month-old conflict.
Iranian state news agency IRNA confirmed five rapid explosions on Qeshm Island, citing local residents who observed two aircraft operating over the airspace during the incident.
