NORKA deploys mobile embalming unit in Kolkata to expedite the transport of Aneesh Mohan’s body to Kottayam
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM :A geologist from Kottayam in Kerala died after a hydroelectric project tunnel collapsed in Sikkim, prompting swift intervention from the Kerala Chief Minister’s Office to coordinate the return of his remains.
Aneesh Mohan, a resident of Pathazhakuzhi near Pampady, was killed in the cave-in at an under-construction hydroelectric project tunnel. Rescue personnel recovered his body late Thursday night following extensive search operations.
Arrangements are underway to transport the body by road from Sikkim to Kolkata. Authorities expect the transport vehicle to reach Kolkata Airport by Friday afternoon.
To avoid delays, NORKA Roots—the state department dealing with non-resident Keralites—arranged a mobile embalming unit directly at Kolkata Airport on the instructions of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Once embalming procedures are completed, officials will place the body on the earliest available flight to Cochin International Airport.
The state government has also arranged an ambulance at Nedumbassery to transport the body directly to his family home in Pampady upon arrival.
NORKA officials continue to liaise with local authorities in Sikkim and West Bengal to ensure smooth transit and clear necessary clearances.
