Chairman Khalaf Ahmad Al Habtoor confirms ignition of stored materials as cause of the blaze; praises rapid response of Dubai Civil Defence.

DUBAI – A minor fire that broke out on Wednesday morning at a construction site adjacent to the Residence Al Habtoor Grand in Dubai Marina was swiftly extinguished by Dubai Civil Defence teams. Officials have confirmed that there were no casualties or injuries resulting from the incident.

Khalaf Ahmad Al Habtoor, Founder and Chairman of the Al Habtoor Group, addressed the incident via his official account on X (formerly Twitter). He stated that the fire originated from the “ignition of some materials stored at the site.” Mr. Al Habtoor further noted that the site would be formally handed over to the relevant authorities for investigation once cooling operations were fully concluded.

Rapid Response and Containment

According to a statement from Dubai Civil Defence, the operations room received the initial report of the fire at 07:06 AM on May 6, 2026. First responders from the Al Marsa Fire Station arrived on the scene at 07:13 AM, achieving a response time of just seven minutes.

Field commanders described the blaze as a “medium-scale” fire occurring within an under-construction building. Through the coordinated efforts of the firefighting units, the situation was brought under control quickly. By 08:51 AM, the site had moved into the cooling phase, a standard procedure to ensure no reignition occurs.

Gratitude to Emergency Services

Chairman Al Habtoor took the opportunity to commend the professionalism and dedication of the Dubai Civil Defence personnel. He highlighted their “readiness and commitment to protecting people and property,” noting that their prompt intervention prevented the fire from escalating and ensured the safety of both site workers and residents in the high-density Marina district.

“The efficiency of the emirate’s safety and security systems continues to rank among the best globally,” the Chairman remarked, expressing his gratitude for the teams that work around the clock to safeguard the community.

Context

The Dubai Marina area is one of the most prominent residential and commercial hubs in the UAE. The incident once again underscores the efficacy of Dubai’s emergency response protocols, which are designed to handle incidents in high-rise and high-profile construction zones with minimal disruption to public life.
