‘Article 370’ takes top feature film honors while Mammootty, Kartik Aaryan, and Yami Gautam sweep the primary acting categories
NEW DELHI – July 18, 2026:The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting today unveiled the definitive winners list for the 72nd National Film Awards, highlighting an incredibly diverse and highly competitive cross-regional cinematic landscape. Evaluating films certified by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) between January 1 and December 3, 2024, the 11-member grand jury led by acclaimed filmmaker Jayaraj finalized honors across feature, non-feature, and technical writing categories.
The primary feature division saw Article 370 emerge as the evening’s biggest winner, capturing the coveted title of Best Feature Film. The political thriller also secured the Best Actress in a Leading Role award for Yami Gautam and Best Music Direction (Songs) for Shashwat Sachdev.
In the highly anticipated leading actor category, the national jury opted for a historic split decision. Megastar Mammootty won his fourth National Award for his performance in the monochrome horror-drama Bhramayugam, sharing the top honor with Bollywood star Kartik Aaryan for his transformative physical performance in the sports biopic Chandu Champion.
