Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced that 60 per cent of the Oud Maitha Road and Al Asayel Street Development Project has been completed under the Sheikh Rashid Corridor Development Project. The large-scale infrastructure initiative is aimed at improving connectivity between Al Asayel Street and Al Khail Road via Al Wasl Club Street.
The project includes the development of four major intersections, the construction of bridges spanning a total of 4.3 kilometres, and new roads extending 14 kilometres. Once completed, the upgraded network is expected to serve more than 420,000 residents by 2030.
According to RTA, construction works are progressing steadily. Around 70 per cent of the bridges facilitating traffic movement from Al Asayel Street to Al Khail Road northbound towards Business Bay Crossing have been completed and are being prepared for opening in the first quarter of this year. Meanwhile, approximately 60 per cent of the tunnel connecting Dubai–Al Ain Road to Al Wasl Club Street has been completed, with remaining road widening and bridge works scheduled to open in the third quarter of the year.
His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, said the project aligns with leadership directives to complete the Sheikh Rashid Corridor and support Dubai’s urban expansion. He noted that the upgrade will increase Oud Maitha Road’s capacity from 10,400 to 15,600 vehicles per hour in both directions — a 50 per cent increase — while reducing travel time from 20 minutes to just five minutes.
The four upgraded intersections include Oud Maitha Road–Sheikh Rashid Road, Oud Maitha Road–Al Asayel Street–Al Wasl Club Street, Al Wasl Club Street–Al Khail Road, and Zabeel Palace Street with Al Khail and Oud Maitha Roads. The improvements support key residential and service areas including Zabeel, Al Jaddaf, Oud Maitha, Umm Hurair, Latifa Hospital and Al Wasl Club.
