Annual preventive plan covers major highways, with laser and AI-based inspection guiding the works

Dubai. Roads and Transport Authority. 3 November 2 026:

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed annual maintenance and rehabilitation works along 20 km of asphalt highways, within the slow lanes. The works covered Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road in both directions towards Abu Dhabi and Sharjah; Lehbab Road, including the free-flow lane for motorists travelling from Al Ain towards Lehbab and the turning lanes at Jebel Ali–Lehbab interchange; in addition to Dubai–Al Ain Road, Emirates Road and Al Rebat Street.

The works mark the completion of RTA’s annual preventive maintenance plan for key roads and highways, part of its ongoing efforts to improve and maintain Dubai’s road network, keep pace with population and economic growth, and elevate quality of life. These efforts aim to maintain road efficiency, sustain operational capacity and verify structural integrity, ensuring smooth traffic flow and the safety of road users across the emirate.

Nabeel Mohammed, Director of Roads and Facilities Maintenance at RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency, said: “Guided by the highest international standards, RTA takes a proactive approach to assessing road conditions and planning maintenance schedules across the year. leveraging the latest laser and artificial intelligence technologies, the assessment covers a comprehensive inspection of the road network, identifying damage, cracks and potholes, before working to repair them.”

He added: “During maintenance works, RTA’s traffic diversions during the maintenance period are based on comprehensive studies in line with international best practices, to maintain smooth traffic flow and ensure the safety of road users. RTA also urges motorists to remain cautious when passing through diversions, and to follow the directional signs, to ensure their safety and that of all road users.”
