Sharjah International Airport has urged passengers to arrive at least three hours before their scheduled departure as airports across the UAE witness a sharp rise in passenger traffic ahead of the New Year holiday weekend.

In an advisory issued on Sunday, December 28, Sharjah Airport said the travel rush is driven by the winter holiday season and the upcoming four-day New Year break. With Sharjah’s weekend falling on Friday and the New Year holiday on Thursday, residents are set to enjoy an extended long weekend, leading to increased travel demand.

To ensure a smooth and hassle-free journey, the airport encouraged passengers flying with Air Arabia to make use of the city check-in service. This service allows travellers to complete check-in procedures in advance and proceed directly to passport control upon arrival at the airport.

Sharjah Airport confirmed its full operational readiness to manage the anticipated surge in passenger numbers. A range of measures has been implemented to improve passenger flow and maintain high service standards during the peak travel period.

Similar advisories have been issued across the UAE, with Dubai International Airport (DXB) expecting more than 10 million passengers to travel through the airport by the end of the year.

Sharjah Airport has also enhanced passenger facilities, including self-check-in kiosks, baggage drop-off services, smart gates, fast-track options, and the Hala service. Additionally, the newly opened Al Diyafah Lounge at the main departure entrance offers premium hospitality and added comfort for travellers.

Staffing levels have been increased across key operational areas to ensure faster processing and smooth movement for both departing and arriving passengers during the busy holiday season.

Meanwhile, UAE employees will observe the New Year holiday on January 1, 2026, followed by a remote-work day for federal government employees on Friday, January 2, 2026.
