With the lifting of temporary safety precautions, airline ticket prices are expected to decrease as flight frequencies return to pre-restriction levels across major UAE airports.
DUBAI: The UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has officially announced the full restoration of air traffic operations across the country’s airspace. The decision, effective immediately, comes after a two-month period of heightened security measures and follows a comprehensive assessment of the regional operational landscape.
End of Flight Caps and Special Permits
Since February 28, the UAE had imposed strict limitations on its airspace due to regional tensions, forcing airlines to operate under “wartime conditions.” During this period, scheduled flights were largely replaced by special operations that required individual permits granted only days in advance.
With the GCAA’s latest directive, these restrictions have been scrapped. Travelers can now expect a significant surge in flight availability as airlines return to their original, full-capacity rosters. Industry experts noted that the previous limit of one flight per destination has been lifted, allowing for multiple daily connections to global hubs.
Projected Drop in Ticket Prices
The return to normalcy is expected to have a direct impact on the cost of travel. According to industry leaders, the sharp increase in seat capacity will naturally drive down fares.
“During the restrictions, seat availability was extremely limited. For instance, a destination like Kozhikode in India saw capacity drop to just 200 seats; that is now set to jump back to over 2,000,” said Noushad Hassan, MD of Alhind Business Center.
Furthermore, the lifting of “war risk” status means airlines will no longer be burdened by the exorbitant insurance premiums that characterized the last two months. These reduced operational costs are expected to be passed on to consumers, further lowering ticket prices.
Enhanced Operational Certainty
For the aviation sector, the move eliminates the logistical nightmare of short-term scheduling. Travel agents highlighted that airlines can now plan their rosters with long-term confidence, moving away from the “special schedules” that were subject to change at a moment’s notice.
“This is good news for the entire travel appetite in the region,” stated Raheesh Babu, COO of Musafir.com. “The removal of uncertainty means airlines can operate at full strength, providing better connectivity and more options for passengers.”
The GCAA expressed its gratitude to both airlines and passengers for their cooperation during the restrictive period, reaffirming that the safety and security of the UAE’s aviation sector remains the top priority.
