Motorists across the Emirates can erase four traffic points by signing a safety pledge and avoiding violations as schools reopen on August 31.
DUBAI, August 22, 2026:Motorists across the United Arab Emirates can clear four black points from their driving records by avoiding traffic violations and accidents on August 31, as part of the Ministry of Interior’s annual “Accident-Free Day” campaign coinciding with the return of students to classrooms.
The nationwide initiative, spearheaded by the Federal Traffic Council alongside regional police departments, aims to curb traffic incidents during the heavy rush expected for the first day of the new academic year.
To qualify for the four-point deduction, drivers must scan an official QR code, sign an online safety pledge, and record zero traffic offenses or collisions on August 31.
Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police and head of the campaign initiative, urged parents and drivers to exercise extra caution in school zones, where congestion from buses and family vehicles peaks during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up hours.
Federal traffic laws enforce strict penalties for safety breaches around educational institutions. Overtaking or failing to stop for a school bus displaying its mandatory stop sign carries a Dh1,000 fine and 10 black points. Drivers who fail to yield to pedestrians at designated crossings face a Dh500 fine and six black points, while mobile phone distractions draw an Dh800 penalty alongside four points.
Improper parking, including stopping in middle traffic lanes or blocking school gates, incurs fines up to Dh200, alongside potential impoundment depending on the severity of obstruction. Speeding penalties vary by margin, scaling up to Dh3,000 with black points and vehicle confiscation for extreme violations.
Police officials noted that while the incentive focuses on the opening day of term, the ultimate goal is fostering permanent road safety habits throughout the academic year.
