Dubai, March 1: Dubai International Airport (DXB) and the iconic Burj Al Arab hotel sustained damage following overnight Iranian missile and drone strikes that extended across Gulf states, authorities confirmed early Sunday.
According to Dubai’s media office, a concourse at Dubai International Airport suffered minor damage during the incident, which was quickly contained. Four people were reported injured at the airport.
Officials also confirmed that a drone was intercepted over the emirate. Debris from the interception caused a minor fire on the outer façade of the Burj Al Arab, one of Dubai’s most recognizable landmarks. Emergency teams responded swiftly and contained the situation.
Dubai, widely regarded as the Middle East’s largest tourism and trade hub, hosts one of the world’s busiest aviation gateways. The Burj Al Arab, opened in 1999 on an artificial island off Jumeirah Beach, has long symbolized the city’s global luxury brand and economic success.
In a related development, debris from aerial interceptions sparked a fire at one of the berths at Jebel Ali Port. Authorities stated that the fire was brought under control.
Meanwhile, Abu Dhabi Airports briefly reported an incident at Zayed International Airport involving one fatality and multiple injuries, though the statement was later removed.
The attacks disrupted aviation operations across the region. Several international airlines suspended flights to and from major hubs including Dubai and Abu Dhabi, while flight-tracking data showed significant airspace closures over parts of the Gulf.
The situation marks a major escalation in regional tensions, with Iran reportedly launching missiles targeting key east-west aviation and commercial centers.
Authorities continue to monitor developments as emergency response and security assessments remain ongoing.
