Enhanced flight networks from Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, and Kozhikode promise easier global travel
Abu Dhabi/Dubai | April 22, 2026:In a significant development for expatriates from Kerala, UAE-based airlines have expanded their global network, offering seamless connectivity from Kerala to over 420 cities worldwide. The move comes amid easing geopolitical tensions in West Asia, enabling airlines to strengthen and diversify international routes.
Major carriers including Emirates, Etihad Airways, flydubai, and Air Arabia have introduced new service arrangements connecting key Kerala airports—Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, and Kozhikode—to global destinations via UAE hubs. The expansion is expected to greatly benefit Gulf Malayalis and international travellers by providing more travel options and smoother transit connections.
Expanded Connectivity Across Continents
Emirates has enhanced its services from Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram, offering convenient connections via Dubai to major cities across Europe, North America, and Oceania. Destinations such as London, New York, and Sydney are now more accessible, providing relief for students, professionals, and families travelling abroad.
Etihad Airways continues to operate direct flights from Abu Dhabi to Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram. With the launch of six new African routes, passengers from Kerala can now access destinations such as Accra, Asmara, Harare, Kinshasa, Lubumbashi, and Lagos with seamless connections via Abu Dhabi.
Meanwhile, flydubai has strengthened its low-cost travel options from Kozhikode and Kochi to Dubai, along with extended connectivity to Central Asia and Eastern Europe. This is particularly advantageous for travellers from North Kerala seeking affordable international travel options.
Air Arabia has also expanded its services linking Sharjah and Abu Dhabi with Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, and Kozhikode. Additionally, its connectivity to Coimbatore offers added convenience for residents of Palakkad and Thrissur districts.
Sharp Rise in Global Destinations
The number of accessible global destinations via UAE hubs has increased from 250 earlier this month to 420—marking one of the largest post-pandemic expansions in international aviation networks. Emirates alone now connects to hundreds of cities across Asia, Europe, and the Americas.
Opportunities for Expats and Businesses
The expansion is expected to significantly benefit Malayali expatriates working across regions, especially in Africa, by reducing travel time and improving accessibility. Abu Dhabi is also being positioned as a key gateway linking India and Africa.
With increased flight frequencies and route options, travellers anticipate better ticket availability and potentially more competitive fares in the coming months.
Positive Outlook for Travel and Tourism
As international travel gains momentum, Kerala’s airports are witnessing renewed activity. Industry experts believe the improved connectivity will not only benefit expatriates but also boost tourism and business travel to and from the state.
