Kochi : The mortal remains of a Malayali woman, who passed away in a Gulf country, are set to arrive in Kochi nearly a month after her death, bringing relief to her grieving family who had been waiting for her return.
According to reports, the delay in repatriating the body was caused by procedural hurdles, including documentation issues and formal clearances required from authorities. The prolonged wait had left the family in distress as they struggled to complete the necessary formalities for bringing her remains back home.
The woman, a native of Kerala working abroad, had died under circumstances that required official procedures such as embalming, legal documentation, and approvals from both local authorities and Indian diplomatic missions. These processes contributed to the delay in transporting her body to India.
After completing all required formalities, arrangements have now been made to transport the mortal remains to Cochin International Airport. From there, the body will be handed over to her relatives and taken to her hometown for the final rites.
Family members and local authorities had reportedly intervened to expedite the procedures, ensuring that the repatriation process was completed as quickly as possible after the initial delays.
Incidents involving delays in repatriating mortal remains of expatriates are not uncommon, especially in cases involving legal or procedural complexities. The case highlights the challenges faced by families of expatriates in bringing back their loved ones for final rites.
